“Transformation” exhibits at the PACE center in Parker, CO May 16, 2022
Transformation
Quilters reuse fabrics, giving them new life and purpose. We look at tablecloths, work shirts, blankets and curtains as wonderful resources. As contemporary artists we also look to a more diverse array of materials that can be transformed: paper, denim, toys, burlap, found objects, plastic, bottle caps, etc. We have even seen band-aids used in a quilt! The medium is the message. Think about what you want to say (story, feeling, commentary) and how the thoughtful selection of recycled materials will give voice to your concept.
Repurposing used materials is a way to lesson the carbon footprint of creating artwork. It can also be a way to honor those artists we borrow from, by bringing new life to beautifully embroidered pillow cases or a much loved quilt. If you need inspiration see SAQA’s Upcycle on-line, and watch a fabulous TEXTILE TALK: Transform – Textile Narratives – Vintage, Found, Transformed.
Entries created since January 2020 and containing 50-100% recycled materials are eligible for this show. There is no minimum dimension. Maximum on any side is 60 inches. 3-D works of art are also encouraged, with the base of the piece not bigger than 11 X 15 inches.
Deadline for entry is April 30, 2022.
