Artists use a variety of fabrics and ephemera such as beads, sequins, stones, photos & other embellishments to create works of art. This call for entities is to create a 3-D cloth or multi-media book cover for a pre-made or hand-made book or a concertina journal. Book covers could be an idea or sampler book, a book containing the title of your favorite topic, subject or technique such as embroidery, boro or sashiko stitching. Book covers can be specific in size to accommodate a pre-made or hand-made book and is not limited to the number of pages or (signature pages) which could be embellished or not – it’s the artist’s choice. A concertina journal may be single-sided or double-sided. Book edges may be finished any way the artist decides.
Books must be embellished in some way by the artist with any type of multi-media chosen by artists, such as thread, paints, pockets, beads, buttons, photos, or other ephemera, and can be machine or hand embroidered, stitched or quilted. A book cover could describe a treasury or collection, a book of plans & ideas, a story, messages, phrases, or thoughts about a period in time. There is no minimum dimensions for book covers or concertina journals.
Entries created in the past four years will be considered for this exhibit. You may enter a total of 3 entries; those entries being book covers and/or concertina journals. To enter write a description of the book cover or concertina journal, including its size, and include 2 full images and 3 detail views of the front and back covers of the book cover or concertina journal. Due to restrictions in the number of images, please submit your best images. Label your five images with the title of your book plus #1#2#3#4#5 . Do NOT include your name.
